Why do the Factories work in low capacity?

The Answer to the question with every layman that why if a factory has a capacity of X units actually operates in under utilization of full capacity i.e. (X-dx) unit

The answer lies in the facts of sales model
It is taken into consideration that Net working capital when calculated in the form of percentage of sales the growth is shown ideal but that is not the case in actual life, There is already some Working capital involved more than required and the Net working capital is calculated by adding that amount already involved added with the percentage of sales

Networking capital=mY (m stands for the percentage factor &Y stands for sales revenue)
Actual Net working Capital =$50+mY

Another factor is when firm operates in full capacity then to show the rise in sales figure gradually it is not possible unless there is new investment on fixed assets like plant and machinery whereas it becomes easier till a point to add sales if the capacity of the plant is under utilized.

After a point for a small increase in sales one has to undergo a investment on the plant and machinery .
In this Till point A to B the plant can show the increase in sales growth without adding the capacity but after the point B it becomes real necessity to increase the capacity utilization

Competing with the customer

In service Industry Competition has taken its own transformation .Today as a Service vendor sells a service the primary concern for the Market aspects rises from Market dynamics, Market size, Number of Players,Market share etc.
There is more to this concern as can be seen as a potential in near future - Customer themselves. There are many things a Person does themselves so that they don't have to return to the vendor and spend more money .
this is a Marketing challenge for many Organisation which are generally into the Third party services , Customer premise services, Maintenance etc. The examples does not just spreads to the realm of household services of plumber, electricians etc . even the Corporate world faces the same .

Actually to be seen in a bigger picture this is not a issue at all it has always been like this , any one who can venture on can " Do it themselves" but then how can this be fought in a market place is a tough ask.
there is no clear bound defined paradigm and periphery under which a " DO it themselves" service can be defined ,but in reality this happens with every one . How can a Basic maintenance Organisation come over with a tactic to curb this tendency . AS Phhyschologically this tendency is natural and happens with every one .
AS a human an activity is tried first and then asked for help .

There are many aspects to this physche but my article will only base this as an assumption that there can be a way out to market a service to Compete with the " DO it themselves" tendency.

India Bets

On the arrival of March 31 there is no more bigger scare to salaried class than the tax saving grind.
Every one goes through this more over every salaried person undergoes the same fright every year that whether the savings enough , whether one will be able to save the tax and keep the govt. goons at bay.So here is another way of looking at this the promotion of savings to be done by each person at the limit of one lakh under which things like - ELSS MF, Edu loans, Infrastructure bonds, PPF, NSC, POST office savings comes in.
Well so most people look for faster way to earn and they look on to Mutual funds where the view is they give bigger returns than instrument mentioned . Flip side is they have there risks but as many are betting on the Indian Economy and running bull market the bet is like promising risk which is too hard to leave by.

AS the growth story goes on and on and many making millions every small investors mainly the salaried class looks into this opportunity .
So her eon a opportunity to bet. Bet on a Fund manager who is running some fund by some Asset management comapny with the likes of HDFC, SBI, ICICI, REliance, Sundaram, ING, Principal , Birla etc.

SO how can Govt. still thinks of banning on betting well they say share market is not betting well it is right in some sane senses but what about insane senses .
Well this is sheer pleasure of betting on the growing story of Indian bull market .

There is ban on betting on Cricket, sports . Ban on playing roulette, poker. But there is no ban on Derby, no ban on lottery and of course betting on some share , some company some person who owns them ..
There is some reasonable explanation done in every legal and illegal activity by every govt. across the world and most have the same funda .

anyhow each of us are onto the same betting on the investment of there hard earned money to give returns some day .. poor Middle class

Tata Wins Corus

On the Eve of last day of January 2007, Tata finally got hold of Corus at 608 pence per share . Winning against the war against CSN . Well the story is is such a big news in Indian Corporate that one cant stay away from being jubilant about it. Well as a company Tata steel has played a big gamble paying more than what the corus deserved .The Management of Tata steel says it will be reaping benefits in 3 years. Now technically we speak about this than the deal has burn holes in Tata's pockets . They may not be worth that much $11.3 Billion but there name is such that any banker is ready to put bet on them . 100 years of history . The biggest corporate house of India having varied interests in - IT, Telecom, Tea/drinks, Retail, Steel, Automobile, Metals, Components, hotels, Consumer durable, FMCG what not.
9 times the EBITA is the value they paid with ultimately CSN would be laughing its fortune as the company itself is a shareholder in Corus.

But then this is moer to do with pride , I would like to commensurate the courage what RAtan tata showed in getting up to his decision that yes they will buy this. He knew that if tata steel has to do good it is now because seldom such big organisation are put to sale. The golden opportunity to make into big league see as they have climbed to the ranks of being No.5 producer in the world no wonder the deal has done wonders for them.
Tata group time and time have been accused of being complacent, uncle auntie company which has a rusted machinery . Tey are not quick to respond to market like the new age business gurus lf likes of - Bharti, Ambani, Shrinivasan.But see with one deal things have changed in the minds of public. Now TaTa is a new age energy symbol to chalenge the world that yes we are there and we can put our name in the big leagues of the world.


The most promising thing is Tata steel is so indian that every one has the connections with it it has grown within India with Indian minds and labour workind day in day out making the cheapest cost steel in the whole world.Well All news channel came up with the buzz of Brand India has arrived yes we are sure with two or three more such bg deals the world will suddenly wake up that yes this country has lot of money. RIL is looking ahead to bid for GE plastics well if that goes through they also are looking at $10 billion+ investments, already videocon, subex, Ranbaxy, dr. Reddys have done bog ticket acquisitions . And evidently its for sure that more will be coming .

There is going to be surge of investments, with space for every one from large player to midsize and smaller outfits. All can serve this new opportunity of BPO. Bigger lenders will outsource to players who have relevant competencies, expertise and certification this is what triggering the buying spree which has happened in form of Genpact buying moneyline lending services, WNS acquired Arizona based Tucson, I flex buying equinox, Office tiger buying mortgage ramp. The trend visible is, almost all the players are either adding up newer services, Ramping up the operations, increasing servicing lines or building competencies, getting certification, buying licenses otherwise partnering with US based players. New Year

Happy new year 2007
As dawn of new year in every part of the world celebration hit like a festival . Today this festival of celebration of new year has made hotel, restraunts, pubs, malls cheer for . With more money in people's pocket lot of splurge in joyous activities all for drinks, dance and less of food . What is night for people going parties is a sleepless night for police . In the middle when clock strikes 12 midnight people raise their roar and start celebrating a policemen stands up on the road just to watch whether drivers are driving properly , is every thing in control
. It is same for all the people who are working in nights but an ordinary question comes to my mind what makes us celebrate 2007 for our country India.

AS i rejoice to my nations growth and prosperity with economy indicating that things will be bigger and better in coming times . I see an army of organisations from different parts of globe investing, starting operations making partners etc. the markets in india are going to catch fire with almost every sector will get a thrust on - telecom ,banking, retail, It, Cement, Real estate, Shipping, Aviation, Automobile . To see the flip side I am scared of a hole which is created by lack of goods . To an extent I am scared of monsoons again and the harvest that will that suffice our needs and farmers pockets as every day I hear one more casuality in farmer families in Bandha( UP), Vidharba it makes me think whether to rejoice 2007 or not.

As I am writing this blog in one corner of Noida (UP) there would be excavatuion going on where few bones of little children will be brought out afer digging some maniac's house and people searching some remains to identify whether they knew those little souls in one corners farmers still fighting for some causes for ther land taken away for a automobile manufacturing unit and in one corner brigades of soldiers fighting with militants to keep this 1 billion sleep in peace. Well This stories happens with many countries and India is no different . With all these heartning stories there are some triumphs too the ideas of microfinance is making lives richer in rural india, Telcom is bringing death of distance, HLL's project shakti is empowering women to come out of the shackels and take charge.

Things are happeneing for the good and all what is required is some simple contribution. Help the poor, do your good work, Keep your city clean , Practise honesty on a brighter note the wish for new year

Drivers Side

Ever Imagined the life of a truck driver ;
We all curse trucks as a Devil of the highways the death crawlers connecting with some incidents of our own lives or of some one in the neighbourhood where one such dare devil truck killed some life or did some fiery accident. Here I wont be writing about the stories instead i am going to write something about the other side.
Life of a Truck Driver.

A lonely highway with overloaded truck, untimely food, paucity of sleep, distance from family, Lower wages , Pressure for running load in time a simple way to explain life of Indian Truck Driver.

Indian Trucks design wise have been the same since world war 2, no respective change same heated compartment with grunting sound of diesel engine roaring with every shift in gears , same wooden hard seats and state of the art music player which reminds of old recorders . As cities growing faster the need to flushing goods from one place to others and buttressing supplier have increased many a times. Today the transport companies have major task in there hand every time they get orders ; to give most prompt service this tends the drivers to stay awake all night and drive and the result of this is on their health . To curb sleep they eat opium which keeps them awake for hours and it is been observed 95% of the truck driver consume opium and all addict of bidi/ cigarettes and alcohol.The same figure goes for the drivers having multiple partners. These drivers take refute there irritation and stress by sexually gratifying themselves from the sources roadside with women , men and some times with the third sex also signifying the state of there mental peace which any one can figure out is at the lowest. Whats more there are unending sagas highway loot, police harassment and official confiscating there permits, goods etc.

Here all this living soul is always on the brim of getting killed by its own daemons some times sleep some times road or some natural calamity . The families of these drivers suffer the same , Children don't have father to look for months , wives have there unending wait for their husbands but when they come home they bring in AIDS.

AIDS /HIV/Hepatitis like thousands of evils chase these drivers all the time who knows next turn when they meet up with some prostitute they will be gifted with it. Te tendency of not to use condoms is most in these drivers as they consider that if they pay they should get the way they wanted and henceforth the HIV virus is travelling places and no doubt within 8 years our country will have 20 million AIDS patient.the lifestyle of these souls is so gruesome that they don't even think of there enemies to join this profession , wages are low , life is dull , love is lost. These lives are worse then animals . It is believed that truck drivers in India soliciting commercial sex work while on the road are spreading HIV throughout their routes. Around 70 percent of India's population lives in rural areas once thought to be relatively immune to the epidemic. So there is another evil to fight for .

from the drivers side this life is no less than death .

Winter morning at Airport

Recently I experienced what most of the early winter morning travellers experience fog impact
I was supposed to catch a flight from Delhi to Chennai at around 8:30 PM it was to depart but what was in store on was different story: passengers were loaded on to the plane and all the necessary drill was excercised and slowly the aircraft was waiting for the ATC clearance . As i was watching through the window i could see the distant Halo- Lamp getting hazy and fog coming over the air stips so what more can one expect the captain honking on the microphone saying we are getting delayed due to fog and as soon it goes off we will fly but then i am a veteran in analysing such stuffs and I was sure we aint flying ..
then the attendants were handing some samosa and sandwitch to all the passengers and later the announced that the flight is halted and delayed for further weather clearance .
Then all were ferried again to the terminal where we again caught up with luggage and here started and episodes of shouting and brunts of angry passengers all of them surrounding the Airline official . that time I realised that public is really fiery if they dont get proper answers . The employees were all facing the brunt of people they were triying to pacify the irked passesngers but it did less .
Finally we were told that the plane is reschedule to 10:30 next morning . and rest all passesngers were fighinting for the cause that where will they stay or not few fortunate called homes to get pickup few took taxis .
but whole ordeal is one of a kind where you see disdained people all around and every one has there obvious motives .
NExt day the airport was again full of people asif whole country is travlling most of the airline desk were seen people blowing up there problems and making them responsible for each of the problems in their lives . Long ques for checkin and finally i was again loadd on to the aircraft where again i had my free samosa because there were further delay due to the bottle neck of other airlines . Finally when the plane left the ground almost after 2 hours of drills excercises everyone clapped as if just columbia climbed up to moon.

In some senses i would appreciate the airline official that they dealt well and to all my fellow mates travellers , you may not see those problems in advanced countries by now because of there systems but then my country's airport are getting chocked because of us only so pressure is obvious . Keep the patience running .

Finally my Delhi airport will see some changes from next year as the fog CAT system use will be in place but till then it will see some more days like this .

India's nuclear power

We all hear the buzz, Nuclear treaty with USA for peaceful usage . India and USA has formally Agreed to exchange technology and know how of the nuclear energy for domestic use that is 'generation of power' ,how will it affect both the countries well to take a cue USA is already the upper hand interms of technology the country is power rich on the other hand India is undergoing a power hunger since decades . The growth in Industrialisation creation of office spaces , residential complexes have left the power grid less power to manipulate with .

Currently India has follwing power plants in - Narora, Kalpakkam, Tarapur, Kaiga, Kakrapar, kota, but these are all govt. controlled establishement according to CN rao report that private establishment should be allowed has fueled the interest of corporate houses in this area- Tata Group, Vedanta group, R- ADAE has shown keen interest to venture in this domain .Even MNC like GE , Alstom, Siemens are looking forward to supply equipments to this sector incase it opens up .
Today India generates around 3000 mega watt of power from these plants and has plans to do it ten times in 20 years . Growth in nuclear power has been slow because of limited supply of uranium .


See the gargantuan requirement - Today the country generates 160,000 MW of power and by 2030 it will require 80,0000 MW of power our generation is mostly dependent on coal and this signifies we will need 2 billion tonnes/ annum of coal to support that type of generation. This figure is all according to planning commission report

Nuclear power has to be there to support the energy needs hence it makes sense to persue the agreement in positive will to support us

A dark hole of Credit

India is fast paced becoming a credit economy every where today credits are readily available. Credit for business, credit for professionals, credit for artisians, credit for car, house . you can get credit for almost everything -except for death rituals.
Well as economist have predicted before hand that India is going to be credit taker. Budding tribe of wage earners , high consumption rate insatiable desire for consumption is fueling to the cause . Take example of living space in Metro cities the prices of 1000 sq ft which is considered to be enough for the family of 4+1 is no longer a sensible figure. The prices of flats and residential spaces have reached to peaks months after month, either people are buying places after places or this is a mirage. The increasing habit of living in credit is becoming a catch 22 situation, People work so that they can earn but today they earn so that they can spend and with credit on there back they work to repay the credits .
Increasing number of people succumbing to the cycle of credit month after month , they are all plugged to something they cant even come out of dark hole of credit.

The cycle goes on and on , if you look from a birds eye view this becomes a ritual - One spends ina month throug a credit card and next month pay the last months bill or most of the earning goes in getting reliecved from the surmountable interst of credit .

Only solution is Control, Discipline in ones spending. Ancestorial concept still hols peace of mind and relieves stress, they used to hate credit and loathe the habit of it . Saving was the mantra but who follows this . Its one life one time you wont be young for ever so why stop... well i guess there are always going to be justification to this . Its up to people to choose what they want from life .

SO here we have another news, Hutchison selling its stakes in Hutch - Essar in India. WEll Indian telecom story has won accolades around the world with many turnaround stories . AS one of the biggest growing telecom market is witnessing new avtars of services the industry is ready to go for a shakeup. The dynamics of the Industry had a pradigm shift whree vendors were asked to take on the services of network operation instead of operator. Today the operator is mere spectator and the vendors have found a new avenue to penetrate .
3G is knocking on the doors , almost all the players have tested and others like Aircel are going other step by taking there shots on Wi- Max.
Reliance Infocomm looking to get a Momentus push and is running to get for hold in GSM business . It is ready to shift to GSM and has already got presence in states like MP, WB etc. So what is the next here , will players like Singtel, Vodafone, Sprint etc start there operations on there own or they will wait for someone to sell off.
All eyes on IDEA, SPICE but as Aditya birla group ( the promoters of IDEA) has said no to the bids SPICE telecom will be a prey to watch out for .

Derisking Risk

Risk is a part of ever venture , whenever anyone takes a step ahead from the ordinary risk is associated like shadows to a body .
Enterprises across the globe fight more and more to captivate this risk and control the venture to its sustainablility limits. Right from taking on a new market, making a new product, starting a new service, every thing has its risk associated with it . There are many tools available in market to monitor risks- various business suites like ( entetrprise risk managemetn portals), Performance management programs, ERP dashboards to minitor the key business facts, BI softwares and packages etc.
But all these come to rest at some juncture. Project viability can be studied and analysed but it cannot be predicted with its response.

Man has fought battles after battles to derisk the risk, but some how things crop up . In business when some product is launched it is suplemented with series of advertisement, Sales strategies, branding excercises etc. millions of dollars spent to derisk the risk and when the strategy fails there are more risks which come up - customer loss, fincncial loss etc.

Can there be a fool proof model which says Risk can be derisked? The best part of the risk is its "presence" without that certainity wil crop in and this will hamper the quest of excellence .

Brain Power

Why we should not be better

An interesting fact is that we humans don’t use all the brainpower some say we use 10 % some say 17 % but the crux of the matter is if one uses more brain power one’s brain will crash it may be like fits which will be observed. Using memory power more is possible but more brainpower is not the case at least for humans.
It is said that if someone is creative the brain signals flow very slowly, and it is found that when one is expert in doing something ones brain activity is least.

To draw conclusion from the above, human brain will stop its challenge power when one becomes expert in one thing because the brain will be slow tinkering.
AS it has been proven with the mouse experiments by the scientists in University of Florida that if the mouse is kept in a environment where there are games and challenges its mind power becomes higher and better.


The impact of routine on brain:

Brain functions in very complex manner, it receipts what we experience and memories the environment, adjusts everything right from the body temperature, heart rate, balance, alertness, strength etc.
When one follows a routine brain adopts to a protocol a flow right from the start of your day till you sleep brain adjusts accordingly and sets body clock of consciousness, hunger, energy level etc. and subconsciously the responses are set.
To explain in an example if one does something different in a day like change of ways to reach office or skip breakfast or go walking the brain has to do adjustments accordingly with the responsiveness, alertness and reactions .
Routine spoils the capability of brain, the more challenging the environment is the better development and evolution the brain will be.

The deepest problem in physics is to harmonise the Macroscopic theories into microscopic one, Einstein had 3 theories once was the ( E=mc2) ,second was the theory of relativity and the third which remained unfinished was theory about everything .
this theory can explain- supernovas, creations, Atom movements, DNA etc.

Superstring theory combines relativity and quantum in an elegant, intuitive way. First, it describes the myriad of quantum particles of nature because each particle represents a "note" on a vibrating string. Think of a violin string. No one says that A or B is more fundamental than C. What is fundamental is the string itself.

Superstring theory says that, if we had a supermicroscope and could peer at an electron, we would see a string vibrating in a certain mode. The string is extremely small (10 to the minus 33 centimeters!) so that the electron looks like a point particle to us. If we shake the string, so it vibrates in a different mode, then the electron can turn into something else, such as a quark, the fundamental constitute of protons and neutrons. Empower camp

128 kilometers from Mumbai passing through Pen, vadhkal, near kolad one reaches a camp called EMPOWER camp one can come from pune via mulshi, ville too. Started by Brigadier of Indian Army Mr. Bhasin.
One gets to do almost every thing that outdoor sport asks for -Obstacle course, Swimming, Horse riding, Hot Air ballooning, Boating &, rafting, River crossing Rock climbing,Rappelling ,Paragliding apart from this if one organises thourgh some channel one can get corporate training too , seminars , lectures are organised for motivation, strategy, Stress bust, business planning etc.

A Quite place full of fun,it has a pituresque view a open space surrounded by green hills , It has a lake which is so clean, walking areas and lots of places to be with nature, one has choices to stay either in boot camps made of canvas or in cottages made of wood. In boot camp one finds comfortable beds, good clean bathrooms, fan , TV and in cottage same things plus AC are available .
Food is great too but then one should not expect chicken curries and alcohol there

The camp has a funda for Taining and learning with fun so its injustice to think that the place is luxury , one will miss out a lot if they dont venture out.
I had my best times there , probably the best time to go is after monsoons. A stream flows through the camp during taht time sitting under it fels like heaven water is clean and natural. I did trekking, climbing, shooting, rafting. Rafting was a sheer fun its risky and that makes it more challenging and amazing

To stay there one has to take out atleast a day and one morning extra.
The cost is not expensive either 2-3 thousand for 2 person to stay with food, if one wants to go for rafting another 1200 per person .
The place is serene and good for out bound training , already there have been many organisation who have conducted there training in that vicinity. With immense experience of Brig. Bhasin the learning becomes lively too . I shared lot of experiences with him and he almost scanned my phyche and gave me few tips that really practically viable and effective .

Mumbai nightlife

Mumbai, the city that never sleeps . But those who don't have homes city don't let them sleep either. On saturday night, 11th oct few kids ram there pops car on people sleeping on the pavement at night . They were suspected to be under aged drunk returing from some pub , lost control hit a road divider then on to people 6 people died and 8 injured. Its not new to mumbai that such accident has taken place ther have been cases reported earlier and to mention this ther have been prominent people involved in that still it happens in every city . Delhi( BMW ) case is another such incident. how can it be forgotten so easily? will that continue for ever?
Well the driver has been booked under 304 ( homicide) rest of the people sitting in car were granted bail.
To figure this out whats the reason of this incident any one will say its because of the under aged immature behaviour, drinking and driving etc etc . Theblame will keep on transferring to person to person and no solution will come up , only steps that will be taken will be some strong ckecking up of people driving at nights may be pubs getting closed at 11 just like bangalore , is there any solution to this ....
Well its the people who should act rationally ...
and about kids , one can say on the first look that they are in a deep trouble
